Frequently Asked Questions.

Q: So what is a learning community?

A: A learning community can take many forms. As a group of learners working to build a new knowledgebase and skill set, members have certain inherent responsibilities. The responsibilities include: participation by submitting contributions; giving and receiving feedback; fostering an area of collegiality balanced by scholarly rigor; and, providing not only academic support, but the social and emotional attention that builds a healthy community.

Q: What qualifications are there for participating?

A: There are no degree or professional qualifications. What is required is "mindful" participation. That is, at the extreme, not attempting to sell products, spam or otherwise abuse the ability to contribute. "Good manners" further dictates making thoughtful and courteous responses, citing when appropriate, and attending to the level of the conversation:i.e., not asking "What's a system?" when others are debating the merits of positive feedback loops in an open energy system. Finally, if the "thread" of the conversation isn't going the direction you are interested in following, start a new one and see if anyone else shares your interest.

Q: Who monitors or moderates this learning community?

A: The owners of DSR, specifically Matt Taylor, will be the primary moderator. As moderator he will ask questions, offer clarification or call for summarization, and maintain control of inappropriate participation.

Q: Who owns the material developed in this community?

A: Trust is the foundation to any vigorous learning community. The use of citations, acknowledgements, and copyrights is a responsibility of membership. Those programs or procedures that are unique, original works of the authors should be posted as copy written material. Conversations and communications that are not part of the work may be cited as web references to the portion of the discussion board(forums) where they took place. Please contact us if you have questions or concerns about sharing any of your work.
